William W. Battles, Sr.

Obituary of William W. Battles, Sr. William W. Battles, Sr., 83, of Volney, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 peacefully at home. He was a resident of the Volney area, a son to the late Wesley and Alice (DuBois) Battles. Bill worked as a crane operator for the Operating Engineers Union Local 545 for over 45 years and was a lifetime member of the Volney Fire Department. He enjoyed going to the casino with his sisters and especially loved playing blackjack. Bill was an avid bowler, fisherman and hunter. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy in 2006, his brothers, Charles, Robert, Gerald and sister, Dora Jean Altman. Surviving are his children, Terri Groves, William Battles, Jr., and Shelly (Traver) Nichols; six grandchildren, Christopher Waring, Jessica Battles, Danielle Bixby, Joseph Nichols, Ryan Nichols, Sarah Nichols; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene Alesci, Elaine Lazzaro, Gloria DeMar, Dorothy Smith and Diane Macdougall and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4-6 pm on Friday, January 15 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with a service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Volney Cemetery Association, 2680 County Route 6 Fulton, NY 13069.
