Vel Colvin Gregory was born on November 22, 1945 on Thanksgiving Day in Osceola, NY.
She passed away peacefully at St. Lukes Health Care Facility on November 15, 2025.
She was an avid reader, quilter, knitter, and lover of cats and horses. She donated many quilts and mittens to people in need, in addition to gifting many quilts, sweaters, mittens, and scarves to friends and family. She had 3 horses that were her loves; Bucky and Comanchee from her childhood and Shalimar in her adult life. She also had 2 special cats, Natasha and Amber (Amber-Jamber). Amber was her faithful companion the last years of her life and even moved with Vel from Arizona back to Syracuse.
Vel was very proud to be a Registered Nurse, graduating from Morrisville with her Associates Degree. She loved taking care of babies on the maternity wards of Rome and Upstate Hospitals.
Vel is predeceased by her husband, Carlton C. Gregory Sr, and her mother, father, stepmother and 4 of 5 brothers.
She is survived by her son Carlton (Michele) C. Gregory Jr., daughters Margaret Gregory and Amy (Gerald) Gregory Rauch and beloved granddaughters, Morgan (Ben) Bisnett, Olivia Gregory and Sydney Gregory. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Adrienne and Tyler Bisnett, brother, Glenn (Orla) Colvin and many nieces and nephews.
After losing her mom to breast cancer at a very young age and being a breast cancer survivor herself, she would ask that you get checked regularly and get your mammograms, ladies!
Burial services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cayuga St. Steakhouse,
Fulton, NY on December 13, 2025 from12pm-3pm.
In lieu of flowers Vel has requested donations to the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL) P.O.Box 442, Fulton, NY 13069 or Susan G. Komen at www.komen.org.
