Obituary of Sigmund C. Hanczyk Sigmund (Ziggy) Charles Hanczyk, 84, of Fulton passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 with his family by his side. He was born on June 2, 1935 in Lukowe, Poland, son of the late Michael and Mary (Stock) Hanczyk. Ziggy came to America through Ellis Island at the age of 12 and lived in Syracuse. On October 19, 1957 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lorelei Kelly. Sig served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962 as an interpreter. He worked at General Electric, retired from Miller Brewing Co. and was a member of the Fulton Polish Home. Ziggy was a dedicated and loving husband and father who passed on his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening to his children and grandchildren. He loved going to garage sales with Lorelei and negotiating for a better deal. Ziggy taught his children many valuable life skills, especially through his example of hard work and discipline…but always with a loving heart. He was the King of One Liners, with this one being his favorite: “I may not have known everything, but what I don’t know is not worth knowing”. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kayla Hanczyk in 2019. Surviving are his loving wife, Lorelei; son, David (Sheila) Hanczyk of Fulton; daughter, Lisa (Jimmy) Glod of Beaufort SC; son, Mark (Annette) Hanczyk of Fulton; daughter, Michelle (Ty) Grevelding of Bernhards Bay; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Debbie) Hanczyk of Syracuse, along with several nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be from 12 – 1 on Friday, July 12 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with a funeral service to immediately follow. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, Voluntary Service 135, 800 Irving Ave. Syracuse, NY 13210 or online at http://www.visn2.va.gov/vet/volunteer.asp.
