Obituary of Shirla Helmer Shirla Helmer, 93, of Oswego, formerly of Fulton, passed away on Saturday, November 24 at Oswego Hospital with her daughter, Geraldine "Mel" Helmer by her side. Born on June 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late, Erwin Hopkins and Florence Wallace Hopkins. Shirla married Paul Helmer on June 6, 1943 and they raised their seven children in Fulton. She loved watching old classic movies, musicals, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Lawrence Welk. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Helmer and a grand-daughter, Brenda Simmons. Surviving are her children, Jerry Helmer and the late, Linda Johnson, Paul (Mona) Helmer, Donald (Debbie) Helmer, Clifford (Patti) Helmer, Lori Fredenburg, Paula Walker and Geraldine "Mel" Helmer; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Shirla will be missed by her family and long-time friend, Laura Turner. A private gathering of immediate family will be held at their convenience.
