Ruth E. McCarty

Ruth E. McCarty, 88, of Palermo, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with her family by her side. Born in Fulton, she was a daughter to the late Howard and Ruth (Lange) Thompson. Ruth worked for many years as a secretary for General Electric where she met the love of her life, Edward. She then retired from the Mexico School District. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, going to garage sales and collecting knick-knacks, but mostly spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Edward; her mother, Millie LaVeck; her daughter, Debra Munger; siblings, Beverly, Cindy, Jerry, and Howard.

Surviving are her six children, Edward (Carol) McCarty, Jr., Linda (Kenny) Ouderkirk, Mark McCarty, Susan (Joseph) Warner, Kathy (David Mannise) Warner, and Ruthann (Tim) Searles; three sisters, Helen, Betty, and Mary; brother, John; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 11am – 1pm on Thursday, October 8th at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with a service to follow at 1pm. Burial will be at Chase Cemetery, Lysander.
