Ruth Claire Devendorf, a cherished member of the Fulton community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on Monday, July 16th, 1934, in Fulton, New York, Ruth lived a life full of grace, creativity, and dedication to her family and community.
A member of the Fulton High School Class of 1952, Ruth wasted no time starting a business. A passionate dance teacher, Ruth dedicated over 50 years to Runions Dance Studio in Fulton, NY, where she inspired countless students with her love for dance. She was not only a teacher but also a mentor, traveling with her students to New York City for dance conventions and sharing her joy for the arts. Ruth's generosity extended beyond the dance floor; she was known for crafting beautiful quilts, which she gifted to many special people in her life. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed gardening, finding peace and joy in nurturing her plants.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Theodore Devendorf, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and a legacy that will endure for generations. Her home was always filled with laughter and love, especially when her children and grandchildren gathered together. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clair and Sarah Runions, and her beloved husband, Theodore Devendorf. She is survived by her devoted children: Jerome R. Devendorf of Fulton, NY, Jill S. Pitcher of Fulton, NY, Catherine J. Eardley of Reno, NV, Gary Devendorf of Seattle, WA, Theodore Devendorf of Ira, NY, and Lee Devendorf of Virginia Beach, VA. Ruth was also a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
Ruth Claire Devendorf will be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to her craft, and her generous spirit. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Ruth's remarkable life. To leave a special message for the family, please sign the guestbook.
