Ronald "Ron" L. Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 82. Born in Malone, New York, Ronald was a cherished member of the Phoenix community, where he resided for many years.

Ron was the devoted husband of the late Mary L. Smith, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and a successful business. He was the proud owner of R.L. Smith Trucking, Excavating & Snowplowing in Phoenix, NY, where he worked tirelessly as a self-employed entrepreneur.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Patti (Bradley) M. Owens of Parish, NY, Lori (Richard) L. Metot of Phoenix, NY, and Carol A. Williams of Oswego, NY. Ronald was a cherished grandfather to Nichole (Rob), Joel, Ashley, Brian (Brandy), Jonathan, Brittaney, Heather (Patrick), and Meghan (Dicky). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Korielle, Brock, Mariyah, Jianna, Lucie, and Sophie, and his great-great-grandchild, Marietta. He is also survived by his siblings, Rodney (Mona) Smith and Sylvia (Richard) Orbaker, as well as his extended relative, Michael Williams, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Neil York Smith and Marion Smith, his sister, Sonja Monroe, and his beloved wife, Mary L. Smith.

An avid hunter and marksman, Ron was a proud member of the Lock Stock & Barrel Gun Club and served as the president for many years, the NYS Muzzle Loaders Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Phoenix VFW, and the Phoenix American Legion. He found great joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed camping adventures.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY. A memorial service will follow at 3 PM. Friends and family are invited to leave special messages for the family by signing the guestbook.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron's name may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, honoring his generous spirit and love for helping others.

Ronald L. Smith will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
