Fulton

Raymond Edward Bassett Jr., beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on March 10, 1942, in Phoenix, NY, Ray was a cherished resident of Fulton, NY, where he made a lasting impact on those around him.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Christine Ann Bassett of Fulton, NY; his daughters, Sandra Bassett of Syracuse, NY, and Amanda Willis, along with her husband Thomas, of Fulton, NY. He also leaves behind his devoted siblings, Carolyn Johnson (Harold), Sylvia Day, Dale Snow (John), Everett Bassett (Sharon), and Karen Friot (Roy), in addition to many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Edward Bassett Sr. and Esther Irene Bassett.

A dedicated and skilled Journeyman Machine Maintenance Mechanic, Ray spent 17 years at Miller Brewing Company in Fulton, NY, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues for his work ethic and expertise. His love for craftsmanship extended beyond his career as he successfully owned and operated Ray's Furniture Perk from 2002 to 2022, where he repaired, designed, and handcrafted custom furniture. Completely self-taught, he even mastered the art of caning chairs. In a testament to his extraordinary skill and determination, Ray built his own home from start to finish, creating a warm and welcoming space for his family.

Ray was known for his passion for the outdoors. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was often found engrossed in reading western books. He also loved to cook, often sharing his culinary talents with friends and family.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the sixth-floor staff at St. Luke’s Residential Long Term Care, for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray's memory may be made to the Jacksonville Faith Community, P.O. Box 254, Phoenix, NY 13135, or to a charity of your choice.

A graveside service to celebrate Ray's life will be held in the spring at Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to leave a special message for the family in the guestbook. Ray’s legacy of love, laughter, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire all who knew him.
