Fulton

Marlene June Nelson, 89, of Palermo, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 14, 1936, in Fulton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Kathryn (Growe) Bigwarfe. Marlene was a proud graduate of Phoenix High School, Class of 1954. She went on to dedicate 27 years of service to the United States Postal Service in Pennellville, NY, where she built lasting friendships and was known for her strong work ethic and warm smile.

Marlene was the heart of her family — a strong, steady presence who was always there when you needed her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved fiercely and unconditionally. She showed her love not only in words, but in her actions every single day.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Patricia Staring and Donna Zahn; and her grandson, Stephen.

Marlene is survived by her three sons: Lynn (Susan) Nelson of Phoenix, NY; Marc (Darsie) Nelson of Palermo, NY; and Paul (Cathy) Nelson of Phoenix, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Bigwarfe, AZ.

She leaves behind six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

In keeping with Marlene’s wishes, there will be no services. Special thanks to the Hospice team who provided comfort and dignity in her final days.

Donations in Marlene’s memory may be made to Palermo United Methodist Church, 11 Co. Rte. 35, Fulton, NY 13069 or Hospice of Central New York, 990 7th N Street, Liverpool, N.Y. 13088.
