Marian Freda Greer

June 2, 1938 — July 1, 2025

Sterling

Marian F. Greer, 87, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on July 1, 2025. Born on June 2, 1938, in Emma, Missouri, Marian lived a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: William (Z. Emilse) Greer, Richard Greer (Alla Williamson), Mark Greer (Theresa Giordano), and Kristina (Brandon) Harris; her siblings, Willis and Sylvia Buesing; and her lifelong best friend, Cecilia Ladd. Marian was affectionately known as "Granny" to her beloved

"Sweens"-17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 more great-grandchildren on the way.

Marian was predeceased by her parents, Edwin L. and Maria A. Buesing; her husband, William T. Greer Sr.; and her later-life companion, Frank Patane.

A graduate of Sweet Springs High School, Marian began her college journey while working as a waitress-where she would meet her future husband, William. Together, they traveled extensively during William's service in the United States Air Force, living in places like Spain, Montana, and various U.S. bases, before settling in Sterling, New York, following his retirement.

In Sterling, Marian pursued a meaningful career as a bus driver for the Hannibal Central School District.

Her dedication to her fellow employees led her to serve proudly as president of the local CSEA union, where she especially enjoyed the camaraderie and annual union trips to Lake Placid, Lake George, and beyond.

Marian was a gifted artist who found joy in working with a paintbrush and visiting art museums. She had a deep love for the Thousand Islands region and cherished her time aboard Uncle Sam's Boat Tours in Alexandria Bay.

Her warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private viewing and service will be held to honor Marian's life. There will be plans to hold a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of CNY & The Finger Lakes. Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal, has care of arrangements.
