Obituary of Lois S. Shortslef Lois Shortslef, 82, most recently a resident of The Gardens in Oswego, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. A lifelong resident of the Hannibal area, Lois Sylvia Blackburn was born May 10, 1936 in Hannibal, to James E. and Jessie (Poorman) Blackburn. She attended Hannibal Central School, graduating in 1953. In 1954 she married Harold “Chub” Shortslef of Sterling. For decades Lois and Chub enjoyed performing country music with various friends all around central New York and in recent years she was delighted to be included in the New York State Country Music Hall of Honor. She was also a member of the Fulton Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Chub Shortslef, of Oswego; sons, Dennis (Cecelia) Shortslef, Doug (Melissa) Shortslef, both of Hannibal and Don Shortslef of Cary, N.C.; granddaughters Emily, Caitlin, and Hannah Shortslef; brothers, James Blackburn and Harlow (Kathy) Blackburn; sisters, Janet Brancato and Bonnie (Fred) Watson as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Lois will be remembered for the joy she took in visiting with family, friends, and loved ones; her love of singing and listening to music; her warm and generous spirit; the ease with which she made friends; her appreciation of nature; and (from earlier years) her enjoyment of entertaining, skiing, camping, and playing her guitar. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 at the First United Methodist Church,1408 NY-176, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Springs Academy/Worthy Student, 40 Spring Street Road, Union Springs, NY 13160 in Lois’ memory.
