Obituary of Lee E. Loomis September 30, 2014 Lee E. Loomis, 90, of Palermo, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at Francis House. Born in Palermo, Lee was a son to the late, Carlon J. and Lucille G. Coventry Loomis and lived all his life on the family farm. Lee and Eleanor graduated from Mexico Academy Central School in 1941. On October, 21, 1944, Lee married Eleanor J. Mansfield and worked as a dairy farmer until the age of 44. He then went to work for the Metropolitan Water Board in Oswego as a Water Plant Operator. Lee retired from their Clay location in 2002 at the age of 78 after 28 years of service. He was an active member of the Mexico Academy Central School Educational Foundation, and served as President of the Alumni Association for a number of years. Lee, along with his wife, Eleanor, were named Alumni of the Year in 2012. Mr. Loomis was a member of the Palermo United Methodist Church where he often helped his wife teach Sunday School. He was instrumental in the construction of the church 47 years ago. The church honored Mr. & Mrs. Loomis by dedicating their upper room in their name. Lee enjoyed cutting and selling fire wood, including heating their home for the winter months. In his later years he found that he had an artistic talent with oil and pastels, painting beautiful flowers and landscapes. Lee was predeceased by his brother, Howard Loomis, who died in 2013. Mr. Loomis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor J. Loomis now of Liverpool; four children, Marion (Donald) Bregande of Manlius, Lucinda (Carl) Freeman of Williamsburg, VA, Lee Rodger (Sandra) Loomis and C. Mark Loomis both of Palermo; a sister, Gertrude J. Lindsley of Fulton; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, at Palermo United Methodist Church, 11 County Route 35, Fulton with a service to follow. Burial will be in Mount Adnah Cemetery, Fulton. Contributions in memory of Mr. Loomis may be made to the Mexico Academy Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 1134, Mexico, NY 13114 or to the Palermo United Methodist Church. Foster Funeral Home, Fulton has care of arrangements.
