Keith L. Penniman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on February 16th, 1937, in Phoenix, New York, Keith remained a lifelong resident of his cherished hometown, Phoenix, NY.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Mary A. Penniman, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together, they built a loving family, including their children: Vickie (Patricia Davis) Penniman, Rodney (Jeanne) Penniman, Karl (Michele) Penniman, and Amy Jo (Tiger) Fairbanks. Keith was a proud grandfather to Ryan (Natalie) Penniman, Lindsey (Sam) Henderson, Stephanie Fairbanks, and Joe (Kara) Fairbanks. His legacy continues through his six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Phyllis Penniman, his sisters Sharon Elmy and Leota Carlisle, and his grandson Tyler Penniman and his beloved dog, Sofee.
A dedicated construction worker, Keith was a valued member of Laborers Local 633 in Syracuse, NY, and worked for Pahl Construction. His strong work ethic and commitment to his craft were admired by all who knew him.
Keith proudly served his country as a Marine, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. He was also a long-time member of the Cicero American Legion. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a respected member of the Three Rivers Rod & Gun Club and had a passion for raising and training bird dogs for field trials. One of his greatest pleasures was traveling for competitive trap shooting, a hobby he pursued with enthusiasm.
Above all, Keith cherished the time spent with his family and traveling with his beloved Mary. His warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 10am-12pm at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY. A graveside service will follow at Phoenix Rural Cemetery, Phoenix, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Francis House, Syracuse, NY, in Keith's memory.
