James R. VanNorman, 87, of Hannibal, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with family by his side. Born in Shortsville, NY, a son to the late Leon and Mariena (Hogerheide) VanNorman. He was a graduate of Red Jacket Central Schools and SUNY Morrisville. Jim was a master cabinetmaker in the Rochester area who dedicated more than 30 years to perfecting his craft. He was also a car enthusiast with a love for travel, especially to his two favorite places: the Adirondacks and the Florida Keys with his life partner, Bill. Jim was predeceased by his beloved dog, Duster; brother, Martin VanNorman; sister, Betty Kershner and sister in-law, Judy Blanchard.

Surviving are his partner, Bill Carley of Hannibal; four children, Rob (Cindy) VanNorman of Ten Mile, TN, Karen (Jim) Crandall of Tucson, AZ, Jeff (Monica) VanNorman of Tucson, AZ, and Cathy (Joe) Roeland of Newark, NY; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Stumpf of Home, PA, Joe (Liz) VanNorman of Manchester, NY, Arlene Reeves of Canandaigua, NY, Catherine Griffin of Shortsville, NY; his in-laws, Barbara (Mark) Hough, Susan (John) Gombas, Linda (Damen) Morrell, Floyd (Darlene) Carley, Debbie (Jon) Cardinali; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life planned for a later date. For those wishing, a contribution may be made in Jim’s memory to UR Wilmot Cancer Center or an animal rescue of your choice. Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
