James “Jim” R. Schefcick, 63, of Oswego, NY stepped into eternity Wednesday, July 23, 2025 by the grace of his Savior Jesus Christ.
Jim graduated from Middletown (NY) High School in 1980 before attending SUNY Oswego. Jim married Nancy Holmes on June 2, 1985 and welcomed his daughter Hannah (Lebo) in 1988. A 1987 graduate of SUNY Oswego’s Technology Education program, Jim worked over the years in construction and as a project manager. Jim was a founding board member of the Port City Royals homeschool sports team and affectionately known as “Coach Sheffy” by the girls’ basketball team until 2006. Jim’s passion for auto racing found an outlet at the Oswego Speedway, where he developed a unique bond with three different teams over the years whom he often referred to as his racing family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nanc; daughter, Hannah; son-in-law, Spencer; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Carol Hunter and brother, Peter Schefcick.
A private memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
