Obituary of George S. Smith, Jr. George S. Smith, Jr., 69, originally of Warrenton, VA, passed away following a lengthy illness with his wife, and love of his life, by his side. He was born in Bethesda, MD on May 24, 1948 to the late Eunice Grace and George Sanford Smith, Sr. He attended Staunton Military Academy, joining the Army in 1968 and serving as a sniper in Vietnam. George received an Air Medal and Bronze Star for his service. He was an avid gun collector, expert target, skeet and trap shooter and military history enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his faithful Westie pet companion, Shakti. George will be forever loved by his wife, Mary J. “Josie” Smith, of Phoenix, NY; son, Aaron S. (Danielle) Smith, of Owings Mills, MD; step children, Kendrick (Lesa) Rizzo, of Montclair, VA and Brandon Rizzo, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Maria, Chance, Sunny and Ashton; sister, Diana Holford (John) Bacon, of WA; best friend, Bill (Charlotte) Quigley, of Falls Church, VA and brother, Curtis Smith. A celebration of George’s life and military service will be held at a later date.
