Gale Armstrong, 91, passed into heaven on 12/15/25. She was born in Maplewood, NJ. She was a very strong lady, she got her driver’s license when most women did not drive. She saved up and bought a car. My Dad had spinal problems and was facing another back surgery, the docs told her he might never walk again. She went out and found a ranch house, so if that happened he would have a one level house. Thankfully the surgery was successful and he always walked.
She made clothes for us as kids for years, and for many families in our community, she was an amazing seamstress.
She always loved dogs and worked for our town as dog warden. We had a number of strays. Gwynne’s favorite was Theta, half wolf/half shepherd. She rescued her in the woods, and that dog loved my Mom. Then she worked at a local vet’s office as an office assistant and vet assistant.
Her next adventure was dog showing with a friend of hers, we had a few different breeds, but she chose Great Pyrenees. Her first dogs were Patches and Fling. From there she became one of the best Pyr breeders in the country, and showed her dogs successfully.
She also had renovated the back of the house adding a grooming shop. One day she decided she needed a whelping room for puppies She moved the furniture out of the room my dad used as an office and took a sledgehammer to part of the foundation wall creating a door from basement main room and closed up the exterior door. Yes, Dad was a little surprised when he got home from work.
Then as things changed, a corporation wanted to build where our house was, and she found another house further north with a working kennel.
My parents moved and she ran a dog boarding kennel and grooming services.
After Mom retired from the kennel she moved to NY and continued painting. When we were younger she mostly painted in oils. After she retired she painted with water colors, entering local contests. She also taught local water color classes. When she set her mind to something she always accomplished it. But her greatest accomplishment was coming to Christ in faith, and while we miss her here, we have full confidence.
Gale was predeceased by her parents Isabel and John Beattie and her husband Robert H. Armstrong.
Surviving are her daughters Peggy (Dave) Eamer and Guenevere (Arthur) Wilschek, grandchildren Raymond Wilschek and Mariah Wilschek (Matthew Gipson), and great grandchild Charlotte Gipson, sister Lee Foster, nieces and nephew Robin, MaryLee, and Dean and brother John (Mary) Beattie.
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Romans 4:20-21
In respect to Gale’s wishes, there will be no services. Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
