Obituary of Dr. Garo H. Taft Dr. Garo H. Taft, 85, formerly of Fulton, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 24th at St. Luke Residential Health Services in Oswego. A native of Syracuse, he was born in 1932 to Armenian genocide survivors, Elise and Zarmair Taft. Dr. Taft was a graduate of Central High School in Syracuse, Syracuse University where he received his bachelor’s degree in science and of SUNY College of Medicine at Syracuse University. He completed his pediatric internship at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital in Cleveland, OH and served his residency in pediatrics at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Dr. Taft established a private medical practice in pediatrics in Fulton, NY for 40 years. He served as school physician for several years for the Fulton City School District. He was honored as a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Taft served as a trustee for Fulton Savings Bank and was a member of the Fulton Kiwanis Club and Syracuse Alumni Association. He was a member of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Syracuse. In his spare time, he was an avid tennis and squash player, enjoyed playing golf, and was an all-around outdoor enthusiast. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Sue Taft; three children, Felicia Taft, Camilla Taft and Garo A. (Marianna Luring) Taft; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Garo E. and Aram; two brothers, Gus and Zarm Taft and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by an infant son, Hovaness Taft. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Taft’s second family of the past four years, the girls on the fifth floor of St. Luke Residential Health Services for their daily loving care. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 14th at Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to St. Luke Activities Department, 299 East River Road, Oswego, NY 13126, for resident’s musical entertainment programs.
