Obituary of Donald R. Hass Donald R. Hass, Sr, 80 years old, passed away on Wednesday morning April 11th at his home in Martville, NY.Born on June 1, 1937 in Nedrow, NY, he was a son of the late Walter Hass and Kate Bistrovich Hass. Don graduated from Central Square High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted the U.S. Army Reserves as a communications specialist. He was employed by Shell Oil Company and was owner-operator of Noble Oil Company. He with his son Don Jr. continued the family farming tradition with Millpond Evergreen Nurseries. He proudly served as an active member of the Constantia Masonic Temple for 48 years. Don has been active with the Martville United Methodist Church for 27 years and was famously nicknamed the “Chicken Man” because his gourmet Chicken Supper recipe. He served the Enoch J. Thomas Cluster of the United Methodist Church for 15 years as Secretary and Treasurer. Don was an avid sports and NASCAR fan and enjoyed time with his friends and family. Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Midge” Earl Hass; his son, Donald (Deedie) Hass, Jr. of Fair Haven, NY; daughter, Kelly (Ernest Hough) Hass of Bloomingdale, NY;step-children, John Earl of Maple Hill, NC, Mike Earl of Woodford, VA, Mark (Beth) Earl of Richland, NC and Carla Earl of Spotsylvania, VA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his step-son, Scott Earl. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Martville United Methodist Church in Martville, NY with Pastor Betty Dingman officiating. A Masonic Service will immediately follow. A celebration of his life will then follow at the Hannibal American Legion Post, Rochester Street in Hannibal, NY.
