Debra Jean Schmeer, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on Saturday, July 23rd, 1955, in Fulton, New York, Debra spent her entire life in the community she cherished.
Debra was a devoted homemaker, dedicating her life to her family and creating a warm and loving home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Charles W. Schmeer, Sr., her parents, Howard A. Ouderkirk and Dorothy Mae Ouderkirk, her daughter, Lena M. Bonnell and her sister, Sharon Ouderkirk.
She is survived by her loving children, Charles (Leigh) Schmeer Jr. of Cicero, NY, and Angela J. Schmeer of Fulton, NY. Debra was a proud grandmother to Sara Birdsell, Steven Wilson, Jacob Brown, and Abby Pierce, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Howard (Missy) Ouderkirk Jr., Stanley Ouderkirk, Kenny (Linda) Ouderkirk, and Ruth (Dave) Ouderkirk, as well as several nieces and nephews. Her beloved fur baby, Maya, was a constant companion and source of comfort.
Debra had a zest for life and enjoyed her trips to the casino, where she found excitement and joy. In her earlier years, she loved camping with her husband, Charles, creating cherished memories in the great outdoors. She had a sweet tooth and particularly enjoyed Zebra cakes and sherbet. Above all, Debra treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Debra's name may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life.
