Debora Lynn Caley

Debora “Debbie” Lynn Caley, 57, of Sterling, NY, passed away on August 6, 2025, at Upstate Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 10, 1967, in Oswego, NY, Debbie spent much of her life in the communities of Granby, Fair Haven, and Sterling. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose love and compassion touched all who knew her.

Debbie is survived by her five children: Shirley Retz, Heather Mack, Nathan Caley, Zachary Caley, and Jason DeJohn; three cherished grandchildren: Meera Sherman, Blake Sharp, and Nova Sharp; her mother, Alice (Pat) Austin; her father, Kenny (Rose) Carvey; and her siblings: Jamie Peek, Larry (Sher) Peek, and Kelly (Donald) Carvey-Wilmot.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Shirley and Clarence Berrus; her uncle, David Berrus; and her brother, Dominick Carvey.

Debbie worked for several years as a security guard, but her true passion was caring for others. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother; her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She had a cherished sense of humor, creative spirit, loved crafting, and found happiness in everyday adventures and special moments spent with family.

Her warmth, strength, quick wit, and selfless love will be remembered and missed beyond words. Debbie leaves behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering devotion that will live on through those who loved her most.

A celebration of her life will be held at her home, at date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Debbie’s memory by sharing your favorite stories of her and showing kindness to others, just as she always did.
