Obituary of Barry Marc Tompkins February 12, 2017 Barry Marc Tompkins, 74, of Fulton, NY passed away February 12 while a patient at Upstate Hospital. Barry was a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy, Union University in 1966. Until his retirement, Barry practiced pharmacy serving for many of those years with Fay Drug Co.; initially as Staff Pharmacist and ultimately as Pharmacy Supervisor. Barry was a man of many talents. He loved music and was a conscientious collector of vinyl. His enjoyment of photography extended beyond his collection of cameras and into the classroom, as a prize-winning student of many courses at O.C.C. Among many other interests, he constructed custom golf clubs, collected dog and bird sculptures, and made and flew kites on the Cape. Of all his interests, he most adored exhibiting his dogs. From 1970 to 1988, he and his family exhibited Lhasa Apsos. A dog from his first litter broke the breed’s all-time record for Best In Shows. From 2002 to the present, Barry and his family owned and exhibited Italian Greyhounds. Barry took great delight in being able to guide his dogs to their Championships and beyond. There are more than 35 Lhasa Apso and 15 Italian Greyhound Champions piloted by Barry and BarCon Kennels. The greatest love of Barry’s life was his family. With his wife, Connie, they have two daughters, Karey Pine and Amy Johnston, their husbands, William Pine and Jonathan Johnston; grandchildren, Olivia Pine, and Audrey, Samuel, and Tavish Johnston. Barry and Connie attended many many sporting and performance events over the years. Whether soccer, lacrosse, basketball, swimming, football, dance, piano, show, or art; anything that involved his girls or their grandchildren, Barry was most likely in attendance. Barry was predeceased by his father, Samuel “Tommy” Tompkins and his mother, Mae (Kosoff) Tompkins. Barry is survived by his wife, Connie of 51 years, his two daughters, their husbands and four grandchildren. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 17 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY with services to follow at 7 p.m. Contributions in Barry’s memory may be made to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation, Inc., Upstate New York Rescue Donation, c/o Patty Woodbury-IGRF Treasurer, 7 Damon Street, North Reading, MA, 01864-2210.
